Student Council Information

2014-2015 De Soto Junior High School Student Council

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your son or daughter is expressing an interest in participating in Student Council.  This is a notice being brought to you for your consent.  Student Council is just one of the many of the wonderful extracurricular activities offered at DJHS.  Our STUCO organization is actively involved with many projects throughout the year such as: community service, fundraisers, Special Olympics, school dances, volleyball concession stands, teacher appreciation week, Veterans Day Breakfast, character education, adopt-a-family, and many more.  Meetings will be held at once a month right after school.  It is a great organization to be a part of and we are excited and fortunate to have such excellent students to work with!

Responsibilities have been outlined below to inform you if the extent of involvement:

  1. Members will be required to attend monthly meetings (if unable to attend you must speak with the advisors and sign in with Mrs. Warden)
  2. Members will help coordinate and organize school activities and events that promote good character and school spirit.
  3. Members will be expected to attend and assist in school functions organized by DJHS STUCO
  4. Members will help coordinate, organize, and participate in fundraisers for the community and Special Olympics.
  5. Members with D’s or F’s on report cards will be put on probation for first offense and removed from STUCO for a second offense.
  6. Members with poor character and discipline referrals will be removed from STUCO
  7. Students interested in running for office (President 8th only, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) must submit a 1 page written letter explaining why they want to run for office and why they would be a good candidate for a STUCO officer.

Below is a list of activities we will be doing this first semester, if you have any ideas of things you think would be good for Student Council please let Mr. Roop or Mrs. Warden know.
